Inkdrinker’s “Blind” Needs Your Ears

It’s good to be back on the local scene. Well, digitally. Newly formed (since last summer) Mason, MI space punkers provide DIY goodness with their second single “Blind.”

I consider myself a pretty big advocate for DIY. I know some find the style to be a deregatory mark, but I’m always excited to check out a DIY production. So much soul can get left on the floor as people are distanced from their final product, and I love the quirks and rough edges of DIY recordings. I cannot think of a genre better suited for the style than punk, and Inkdrinker is a perfect fit. The rawness and lyrics remind me of proto-punk and early emo, but with a willingness to write a bit more complicated of a song: complete with doomy opening riffs, thrashy drums, and a nice spacey outro. I guess they don’t call it space punk for nothing.

I think it’s fair to call Inkdrinker a promising new band. I also dig the previous single “Can’t stay away,” and really enjoy the general vibe and production style. You oughta give them a follow if you’re in the Michigan area, as it seems they play decently frequent shows. Anyway, Inkdrinker, “Blind,” it’s good.
