Mirah is back! Well, also I’m back listening to Mirah. What a time to be alive?

Dedication will be Mirah’s 14th studio album (if you don’t count Thao & Mirah). Mirah has been making music since 2000 with her debut album You Think Its Like This… But Really Its Like This. I think I started listening around 2008-2009 and got a chance to see her in Grand Rapids 2015ish. Mirah really captured me at the time with her indie-pop production on lyrically singer-songwriter worthy tracks. Mirah, among many others, really encouraged me to be an experimental and exploratory songwriter by example.
Dedication comes out February 20th, preceeded by two singles; “Catch My Breath” and “After The Rain,” the latter of which hit major streaming January 7th. If the two singles are anything to go buy we’ll be getting plenty of variety for this album. “After The Rain” is my favorite of the two.
“After The Rain” starts with sparse, soft country/folk production and builds throughout the song layering on elements like vocal harmonies, strings and percussion. The song is driven by Mirah’s atmospheric vocals and solemn lyrics, remimiscing on love, life, and place. While the song is a lot less energetic than many of my Mirah favorites, after repeat listens I’ve found it to be just as catchy, and the immersive vocals and instruments to scratch the same kind of itch as ambient tunes.
“After The Rain” and “Catch My Breath” are out now wherever you listen, and Mirah’s first album in 7 years, Dedication is out February 20th via Double Double Whammy.
