Sorry not sorry for the confusing title! We here at Dirt Witch Records are very excited to announce: Dirt Witch Records: The band (well, recording project).

“So, another project huh?”
Yes, but for good-ish reasons! For one, I’ve been feeling like I’m on a bit of a plateau with my songwriting. The Existential Dread is one avenue to stretch and challenge myself, and now Dirt Witch Records will be another. Also, it seems like an obvious move from a marketing perspective; and with less time for marketing than ever I want to maximize impact.
What About Your Other Current Projects?
The Existential Dread isn’t going anywhere, and will continue to be my avenue for experimental, alternative pop, and psychdelic rap. Justin H.K. will stick closer to the roots of the project with singer-songwriter and experimental folk music. Justin H.K. will be a lot more confined genre-wise to folk music for any future releases, of which there will be less as I try to focus my songwriting efforts on The Existential Dread and Dirt Witch Records.
What is Dirt Witch Records?
I’m not going to act like Dirt Witch Records is going to be a startling depature from my previous music. In a lot of ways, Dirt Witch Records will be picking up where Justin H.K.’s latest effort, “HEADROOM,” left off, experimenting with slightly less traditional song structures, and using lots of texture and melodrama. “Baldspot” in particular is a song’s style and sound I will be recreating, and manipulating. Dirt Witch Records will in total be: Heavier, more guitar focused, and less improvisational. Genre wise DWR will hover around indie rock and post-rock/post-punk with heavy inspiration from bands like: Modest Mouse, The Mountain Goats, Mogwai, Pavement, and Black Country, New Road. Lyrically DWR will focus on absurd, cryptic, and occult themes.
When Can I Hear It?
If you follow my instagram, soundcloud, or youtube, you already have, sort of. A lot of my songs from the “2 pc sessions” are versions of Dirt Witch Records songs. More importantly though, in one week (Friday, May 9th) Dirt Witch Records debut single “Get Behind Me Satan!” will hit major streaming. Additionally you can expect an EP this summer, and an Album this fall.
