I was trying to really get a swing of things on video content, and then I get hit by an almost tornado, so I guess that slowed things down. Anywho.

Cisco Swank “Soon We’ll Make It” Aug 21
I ended up on the Fresh Finds Jazz playlist for this one, and I do not remember why. This song has a neat ABA structure, and I like the instrumental shift between the song and rapped sections. The sung section kind of reminds me of the song “Call Me” by The Seatbelts (made famous by Cowboy Bebop) and that makes my heart tingle a bit.
The Mountain Goats “Fresh Tattoo” Aug 23
The Mountain Goats are such an important band to me, and to the indie scene in general, and it’s so fucking dope that the music they make now is so different, and still so goddam excellent. I love the ratta tatta tat high hat ride on the drums and the sweeping horns, it’s very full. And the lyrics deliver as always, his songs so full of sorrow, and short stories, and life affirming hope.
Red Scarves “Kindness” Aug 23
Another band that never disappoints, Red Scarves release the thoughtful and chaotic, lo-fi and sweeping “Kindness.” I love the way the vocals emote and change throughout the song.
Buck Meek “Haunted Mountain” Aug 25
I’m kind of cheating with this one, since this came out as a singe back in May, but the album (which I do hope to get to) of the same name just came out, and I fucking love this song, so here we are. Also, yes, this is the same song as the Jolie Holland “Haunted Mountain” from last week. They co-wrote it, the both have albums of the same name, it’s a whole thing. I love his take, with his beautiful twang and noisy country guitar.
PFFU “(basking)}} baking)” Sep 1
This song has big Sebadoh vibes. I love the fuzzy riff and the mix of the heavy guitar with more laid back vocals. Real core indie type shit.
If you get the change, you should check out my recent album “Welcome Home,” by Justin H.K., especially if you like the song “Wrong Exit” I put at the end of these five songs on my playlist.
